What is Normal?

A new normal.

When Noah was born with a Congenital Heart Defect and needed a Heart Transplant things didn't seem normal.

We became a NICU family. Finding someone to watch Lilly so we could go to the hospital. Wanting to spend every moment with Noah, not knowing how long we had with him, but breaking inside with the time away from Lilly. Sometimes it seems like things would never be normal again.

Lilly and I followed Noah to Denver so he could have his transplant while Shane stayed home to work. Living in a Ronald McDonald house didn't feel normal.

Then we came home. Adjusted to life with an immune-suppressed Heart Baby and I began to wonder what normal even was.

You see, every one goes through different things. Some people have severe allergies and have to avoid their triggers at ALL costs. Some people are blind, others deaf. Some go to the hospital WAY more than we do. Some families are apart all week only to be together on the weekends. Some people live with family and don't have much privacy. Others don't even have a home to live in.

Normal? Normal life is different for everyone.

My life has never been NOT normal. It's just been mine. And now? It's different than it was before but it's still normal.

Every day, every changing season, every new development is my "New Normal". It's Life!

This post was written as a submission for the August Group Writing Project over at MomaBlogga. It's a lot of fun and very thought provoking. So stop by and maybe even give it a try!!

There is no "normal". Every family unit has their problems...be it financial, marital, parental, ect. There is not one perfect family or perfect life out there.
All we can do, is strive every day, to attain OUR own level of perfection and normalcy.

I think "normal" is a relative term, like you've said. What's normal to one person wouldn't be normal to someone else.

Sorry the form gave you such problems!
